Munro Reaches Milestone: First Series-M 4×4 Produced in Scotland

Munro Vehicles has achieved a major milestone with the completion of its first pre-production model, the white Series-M Utility. This five-seater, hardtop 4×4 rolled off the production line in East Kilbride just ten months after Munro introduced the Mk_1 prototype.

The Mk_1 marks the return of light vehicle mass production to Scotland for the first time since the closure of the Linwood car plant in 1981. Munro is expanding its operations, scaling up production, and creating 300 new jobs in the region, with plans to increase annual production from 50 to 2,500 vehicles by 2027.

“Seeing the first pre-production Munro Series-M Utility roll off the line is a historic moment for both Munro and Scotland. It’s the first light vehicle to be mass-produced here since 1981,” said Marcus Mackle, Head of Vehicle Sales at Munro. “While this is an important milestone, we’re focused on the future, with a £68 million customer pipeline for our Series-M Utility and Series-M Truck models. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”

The development of the Series-M range has been shaped by rigorous testing in Scotland’s rugged terrain, with direct input from customers driving key design improvements.

“Our customers spoke, and we listened,” said Russell Peterson, CEO and co-founder of Munro. “We’ve introduced several enhancements, such as an adjustable steering column with controls on the wheel and improved ergonomics. Safety features, including airbags, ABS brakes, and traction control, are now standard.”

The Series-M Utility also features upgraded body panelling for easier replacement of components, contributing to its goal of a 50-year lifespan. A new ‘exoskeleton’ mounted on the Utility’s hardtop allows for secure equipment mounting.

The vehicle is powered by a more robust lithium iron phosphate battery pack, offering a fast 30-minute, 130kW rapid charge. The vehicle’s thermal efficiency has been improved to allow waste heat from the drivetrain to warm the cabin, while enhanced soundproofing measures make for a more comfortable ride, whether on highways or challenging off-road terrain.

With over 250 pre-orders from sectors such as mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense, Munro’s Series-M electric 4×4 vehicles are set to help customers meet their decarbonization goals. The Series-M Utility offers a range of up to 200 miles on tarmac, making it an ideal solution for demanding work environments.
